His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon opened THE OCEAN conference today. This event brings together the leading minds and authorities within the ocean industries.

In his opening speech, Crown Prince Haakon touched upon how the ocean connects humanity as a whole and the possibilities it holds. He also spoke of the future challenges for the ocean and the need to meet these challenges. “The task that we are facing is formidable and challenging, but also meaningful,” said crown prince Haakon. He added “It is up to all of us, our dedication and entrepreneurial spirit to reach our sustainable goals”. THE OCEAN consists of presentations from, as well as Q&A sessions with various researchers, corporate heads, investors, entrepreneurs, innovators, and government representatives from within the ocean industries. For the first time ever, THE OCEAN will be a hybrid event. This two-day conference will be held at Bergen’s Grieghallen for a limited capacity while simultaneously live-streamed.

The themes for this conference will revolve around: “Ocean Wealth: Policy, taxonomy, market, and value creation”, focused on investment and regulatory needs to ensure a sustainable ocean economy. “Ocean Health: Sustainable use of ocean resources”, highlighting environmental challenges and solutions for today’s ocean industries. “Ocean Knowledge: Competence and collaboration”, exploring how science and commerce can collaborate to create new methods and technologies to sustainably use ocean resources. THE OCEAN is an arena for new discoveries, connections and collaborations across ocean industries and academia for a sustainable use of the oceans.
